Kissling gear units can be used in various types of power generation. Conventional single-stage helical gear units are often used for relatively slow speed steam turbines. The ASTRO gear unit series was developed for higher transmission ratios, ranging between 8 and 80. This is an extremely compact two-stage planetary gear unit with a power split. Flexible pin technology provides a uniform load distribution so that up to seven planets can be installed for each stage.
The ORION stepped planetary gearboxes complete the range in the middle transmission ratio spectrum. Various other coaxial gear unit solutions are already planned to provide the optimum solution to meet customer requirements.
Compact and concentric solutions
The major advantage of these gear unit solutions is that the fastest shaft no longer requires bearings. Instead, it can be guided directly into the gear unit with the turbine shaft. The turbine housing can be directly attached to the gear unit housing. This makes it possible to achieve a very high level of efficiency.
Water turbines
Water turbines are a special case in power generation, since the speeds are relatively low. Kissling also has a solution for this special application, with a series of single-stage gear units that were designed in-house.
